Tigers Claim Back-to-Back OEC Championships
No. 2-ranked Riverside City College grabbed back-to-back Orange Empire Conference Championships after defeating No. 10-ranked Saddleback College Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 27-3 on the year, while the Bobcats slip to 19-11.
Chandler Burrell led RCC with four goals and dished out three assists, while Yosra Elseifi added three goals in the win. Samantha Thomas and Abigail Ruiz each chipped in two goals, while Clare Baty rattled in a penalty goal.
Sofia Mather finished with five saves in the cage to help the Tigers win the championship.
Thomas got things going with a power play goal two minutes into the first quarter, but the Bobcats responded with a goal 30 seconds later to even the score. Thomas then knocked in another power-play goal to give the Tigers back the lead, which they would never relinquish.
Burrell all but sealed the championship for RCC with a goal less than 30 seconds into the final quarter as the Tigers held on for the 12-9 victory.
Riverside heads to Orange Coast College next weekend for the SoCal Regional Championship, with seeding yet to be determined.
