
Tigers Secure Spot in SoCal Semis, State Tournament
No. 2-ranked Riverside City College secured its spot in the 3C2A State Championship after downing Cuesta College 18-6 in the SoCal Regional quarterfinals Friday morning.
The Tigers improve to 28-3, while the Cougars end the year at 20-13.
Yosra Elseifi had six goals for RCC, while Abigail Ruiz and Clare Baty each scored three times. Lily Helberg, Samantha Thomas, Nicole Robertson, Chandler Burrell, Annabella Storar, and Keira Casey also got in on the scoring action, while Sofia Mather dished out seven assists and made six saves from the cage.
Cuesta struck first, but Riverside scored back-to-back goals to take the lead and never looked back. Ruiz capitalized first and Elseifi rattled in a goal just 30 seconds later.
RCC put the game out of reach with six goals in the third, including a penalty shot by Baty with 2:34 left in the quarter.
The Tigers will play two games tomorrow, beginning with a semifinal matchup against No. 3-ranked Santa Barbara City College at 9:45 a.m. The winner will advance to the championship game at 3 p.m., while the loser will battle for third place at 1:30 p.m.
