Women’s Water Polo Wins Conference Opener
The Riverside City College women's water polo team began the season strong with five wins and are currently riding a four-game winning streak. They opened Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action this Wednesday by traveling to Huntington Beach, CA to take on the Golden West College Rustlers. The Tigers got out to an early lead and maintained the distance leading to a 16-6 victory.
Seven different players scored for Riverside highlighted by sophomore Taylor Mason's five-goal outburst. It is the second time she has landed in the fives and has scored in four-consecutive contests.
Sophomore Amber Nielsen had a strong showing with four goals and a steal, while freshman Kylee Hieda recorded a pair of goals and assisted on three of them. She also added one steal as well.
Sophomore Lauren Nelson had a well-rounded effort with two goals and a pair of assists. She also drew one of the team's six ejections. Sophomore Lindsey Habegger led the way with two drawn ejections accompanied by three steals and two assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Fisher earned the win between the piped after allowing a mere goal and recording six saves. Freshman Daniela Guzman recorded six saves in two quarters of action.
Sophomore Helena Olivares and freshman Hailey Cruz each scored her first goals of the season.
