Riverside Remains Undefeated With Wins Over Chaffey and Citrus Friday
RIVERSIDE -- Scoring early and often, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's water polo squad remained undefeated as it won its pair of games in its inaugural RCC Tournament Friday (Sept. 16) at the Riverside Aquatic Center.
Riverside City (7-0 overall) opened Friday's action against the Chaffey College Panthers. RCC led, 6-0, at the end of the first quarter, 12-0 at halftime and cruised to a 16-2 victory over Chaffey.
Sophomore two-meter offense player Emily Martin (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS '15) led RCC with a game-high four goals and sophomore attacker Mary Myers (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15) chipped in with three markers.
Sophomore goalie Ariana Olmos (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS '15)and frosh goalie Breana Ortiz (Fontana / Etiwanda HS) split time in goal for RCC with Olmos registering four saves.
In the second game of the day, RCC played Citrus and again came out playing excellent defense. The Tigers led, 4-0, at the end of the first quarter, 7-0 at halftime and 10-0 at the end of three quarters before winning the game, 12-1. Myers -- who is pictured -- had five goals and froshattacker Dafne Garcia (Mexico City, MEXICO / Inhumie School) added two goals.
In goal, Ortiz had five saves and Olmos had five saves, three assists and three steals. Olmos allowed the fourth-quarter goal by Citrus.
Riverside will be back in action on Saturday, Sep. 17, when it takes on Ventura at 8 a.m. and then Cerritos at 1:25 p.m.
