RCC Women Water Poloists Remain Undefeated with Two Wins to Open Cuesta Tournament Play
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Posting a pair of victories to open tournament action, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's water polo squad remained undefeated with wins over the American River College (ARC) Beavers and the Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates Friday (Oct. 3).
Riverside (14-0 overall), the 2013 state tournament runner-up, started slowly and was tied, 4-4, at the end of the first quarter, but quickly rallied to lead, 11-7, at the half en route to an 18-7 victory over ARC. Sophomore Nikki Bell (Riverside / M.L. King '13) led the way with six goals, while sophomore Alia McMorris (Riverside / M.L. King '13) added three goals and frosh Danika Bell (Riverside / M.L. King '14) , who is pictured, chipped in two more. In all, ten Tigers scored in the game.
In the second game of the day, the Tigers matched up with Orange Coast. RCC came out strong, leading, 5-0, at the end of the first quarter and 9-0 at the half. The Tigers then cruised to a 14-3 victory. Sophomores Nikki Bell and Alia McMorris each scored three goals, while frosh Alannah Parrett (Temecula / Chaparral '13) and frosh Kelley Geurts (Murrieta / Murrieta Valley '14) each had two goals. In total, eight Tigers scored in the game and the defense was locked down by frosh goalkeeper Kayla Chang (Kahuku, Oahu, HI '13), who had nine saves in three quarters.
The Tigers will play Foothill College and Fullerton College Saturday morning, Oct. 4.
