
Riverside Routs American River, 15-4, and Long Beach, 12-6, in Own Mini Tournament Friday
RIVERSIDE -- Posting a pair of victories in its annual mini tournament, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's water polo squad defeated the visiting American River College (ARC) Beavers, 15-4, before topping the Long Beach City College (LBCC) Vikings, 12-6, Friday (Oct. 16) at the on-campus Riverside Aquatics Center.
Riverside (15-2 overall) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter against ARC, led, 9-1, at halftime and 13-2 after three quarters. In its nightcap against LBCC, RCC led, 4-1, after the first quarter, 9-2, at halftime and 10-4 after three quarters.
Frosh attacker Mary Myers (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15) -- who is pictured -- led the Tigers with five goals and added one assist and had three steals. Against LBCC, Myers had three goals, two assists and three steals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Chang (Laie, HI / Kahuku (Oahu) HS '14) started and played the entire first half against ARC and logged ten saves. Frosh GK Ariana Olmos (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS '15) played the entire second half had two saves. Against LBCC, Chang went the distance and recorded eight saves.
Riverside's next competition will be in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play when it visits the Cypress College Chargers on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
