Nguyen Goes Long in Tiger Defeat
Written by Ayden Mason
No. 12-ranked Riverside City College scored first but couldn't hold back No. 7-ranked Palomar College in an 8-1 loss Friday afternoon.
The Tigers slip to 31-13 on the year, while the Comets improve to 34-11 and hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
Ian Nguyen (2-for-3) got the Tigers an early 1-0 lead in their first chance at the plate, blasting his third home run of the season, two of which have come in the postseason.
The Comets tied the game in the fourth before busting it open in the sixth to jump out to an 8-1 lead.
RCC – which left 10 runners on base in the game – couldn't get its bats hot in the ninth, dropping the game and heading into Saturday with its back against the wall.
The Tigers need to win the 11 a.m. contest on Saturday with the Comets to force a second game in the best-of-three series, which would follow approximately 40 minutes after the first game concludes.
