Lancers Keep Tigers From Big Comeback
No. 5-ranked Riverside City College couldn't completely claw its way out of a 12-3 deficit, falling 12-10 to Pasadena City College on the road Friday.
The Tigers slip to 16-8 on the year, while the Lancers improve to 14-7 overall.
RCC finished with 11 hits, with three Tigers posting two hits on the day: Logan Clear (2-for-4), Ian Nguyen (2-for-4) and Alex Gamez (2-for-4). Parker Sobiesiak (1-for-4), Darin Osterloh (1-for-2), Marcus Moyer (1-for-1), Marc DiCarlo, Jr. (1-for-4) and Malakai Lopez (1-for-2) also had hits in the game.
Down 12-3 after five complete, the Tigers plated one run in the sixth as Moyer came home on a grounder to start to chip away at the Lancers' lead.
Riverside got back in it with four runs in the seventh to pull cut the margin down to a more doable four runs. Clear led the frame off with a single up the middle and came home on a Sobiesiak double. Sobiesiak then scored on a grounder from Osterloh, before Gamez drove two runs in with a double deep to right center.
The Tigers looked like they might claw their way back on top with another run in the eighth and tried to get a rally going in the ninth. Moyer drove in another run to put RCC within two with a runner on and no outs, but the visitors couldn't get any more runs to give PCC the 12-10 victory.
Riverside has another nonconference matchup before resuming Orange Empire Conference action next week and heads to Southwestern College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
