Riverside Is Unstoppable at IVC
No. 12-ranked Riverside City College bounced back with a huge blowout 25-3 victory at Irvine Valley College Thursday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 24-12 overall and 11-6 in the Orange Empire Conference with their highest scoring output of the season and sit tied for second with Santa Ana College. The Lasers drop to 16-20 on the year, 3-14 in conference.
RCC scored early with an RBI double from Marc DiCarlo Jr. (1-for-3) in the first inning to start the scoring spree. Parker Sobiesiak (3-for-5) added another double, scoring two to take a 3-0 lead in the third.
The Tigers erupted in the fourth inning when they scored 10 runs. Logan Clear (3-for-7) drove in three RBIs before Ian Nguyen (3-for-3) hit a three-run home run. Malakai Lopez (1-for-3) knocked an RBI single, while Darin Osterloh (3-for-5) cleared the loaded bases with a three-RBI triple to up RCC's lead to 13-0.
It seemed Riverside was unstoppable as it added another five runs in the fifth, two each in the sixth and seventh, before capping the scoring with three runs in the top of the eighth.
IVC managed to break the scoreless drought with a run in the fifth and two in the eighth, but RCC had already put the game well away and finished with 24 hits after almost every Tiger who entered the batter's box posted a hit.
Jorge Rodriguez earned the win after he threw six innings, only allowing three hits and striking out four.
Riverside returns home to close out the three-game series against IVC on Saturday, hoping to build off today's performance.
