Ventura
Riverside City College swept its second doubleheader of the season with 4-1 and 11-2 victories over Ventura College Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 7-1 on the year, while the Pirates drop to 2-5 overall.
In the first game, six Tigers had hits in the game, with Marc DiCarlo Jr. leading the charge (2-for-4). In the nightcap, RCC exploded for 12 hits, once again with DiCarlo leading the way (3-for-4).
Riverside busted the second game open in the sixth, scoring eight runs on five hits and two Ventura errors – all with two outs. With bases loaded, Bubba Heidler (2-for-5) drove in two runs with a single to center field before a wild pitch scored another run. Alex Gamez (1-for-3) took advantage of a Pirate error to keep the inning alive as Heidler came home to up RCC's lead to 7-2.
The Tigers put two runners back on and Luke Medure (1-for-4) drove in one with a base hit before Ian Nguyen (2-for-4) knocked a single to left field, where the Pirate missed the ball, allowing Nguyen to round all the bases and come home after the two other runners and seal the 11-2 victory.
Jorge Rodriguez grabbed the win in the opener with seven strikeouts in seven innings on the mound, while Jake Valenzuela grabbed his first save. Jack Wheaton picked up the win in the nightcap with two strikeouts, while Evan Stratton put in three innings of solid work with eight strikeouts.
Weather permitting, the Tigers are scheduled for a 1 p.m. contest at Grossmont College on Friday and return home on Saturday to take on San Diego Mesa at 1 p.m.
