
Riverside Gets Bats Hot Against Grossmont
Riverside City College got its bats hot in a 14-1 victory over Grossmont College Thursday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 8-2 overall, while the Griffins drop to 7-3 on the year.
RCC finished with 16 hits with Marc DiCarlo Jr. leading the charge with a perfect 4-for-4 showing at the plate with three runs and four RBIs. Bubba Heidler went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Dylan Nelson (2-for-3) and Alex Gamez (2-for-4) also had multiple hits in the game.
The Tigers struck early and often, plating two runs in the bottom of the first and third innings. RCC added three in the fourth, before all but putting the game away in the fifth with five runs.
With bases loaded and no outs, Logan Clear drove in two runs with a base hit to center field. Heidler scored as the Griffins managed to get an out and DiCarlo Jr. sent Clear in to up RCC's lead to 11-0. DiCarlo, Jr. capped the scoring by taking advantage of a Grossmont error.
Riverside tacked on two more runs in the eighth, but the Griffins managed to sneak in one run in the ninth to prevent the shutout, 14-1.
Evan Stratton picked up the win on the mound with seven strikeouts in six innings of action, allowing just four hits and no runs.
The Tigers are back at home on Friday, hosting Palomar College on Friday at 1 p.m.
