Tigers See Season Come to a Close
Written by Ayden Mason
No. 12-ranked Riverside City College battled Saturday but couldn't overcome No. 7-ranked Palomar College, seeing its season end in a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat.
The Tigers end the year with a 31-14 record, while the Comets will advance to the next round of the 3C2A SoCal Regional with a 35-11 mark.
Like he did yesterday, Ian Nguyen (1-for-2) put RCC on the board early after hitting an RBI double to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
Palomar responded with two runs in the second before Dane Lujan (1-for-2) hit an RBI single in the fourth to tie the game for Riverside, 2-2.
The Tigers took a two-run lead in the fifth off a Nguyen sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout from Logan Clear (1-for-4), 4-2, but once again Palomar tied things up in the seventh before taking the lead in the top of the ninth.
With one more chance at the plate, Riverside needed to score one to keep the game going, but couldn't get anything going to end the game and the season.
