
#8 Tigers Turn Tables on #3 Bobcats
A day after getting shut out by No. 3-ranked Saddleback College, No. 8-ranked Riverside City College turned the tables and grabbed a 6-0 clean sheet on the road.
The Tigers improve to 14-5 overall and start Orange Empire Conference action with a 2-1 mark, while the defending 3C2A State Champion Bobcats drop to 13-6 on the year and 1-2 in conference.
Luke Medure had a solid day for the Tigers, going 4-for-5 at the plate with one run scored and three batted in. Eddie Alfaro went 2-for-4, while RCC also saw hits from Ian Nguyen, Alex Gamez, Danny Inzunza, Malakai Lopez, and Riki Kubota.
Riverside struck first in the top of the second after Lopez sent two runners home with a base hit up the middle.
Nguyen tacked on another run in the fifth, coming home on one of Medure's hits, before Gamez and Medure had back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh to up the visitors' lead to 5-0.
With two outs and Alfaro on first in the ninth, Medure doubled to center field to send the runner home and seal the 6-0 victory for the Tigers.
Jake Valenzuela grabbed the win on the mound for Riverside, striking out nine batters and allowing just five hits.
The Tigers begin a new OEC series with No. 20-ranked Golden West College, with the first game scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m. at home.
