RCC Gets Back on Track
No. 5-ranked Riverside City College bounced back with an 8-5 victory on the road at Southwestern College Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 17-8 on the year, while the Jaguars slip to 16-9 overall.
RCC exploded for six runs in the fifth to bust the game open. Darin Osterloh (2-for-4) led the inning off with a base hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice from Marcus Moyer. Bubba Heidler (1-for-3) then singled and a Jaguar error scored Osterloh.
Another error put two runners on before Heidler came home on the next play. Southwestern managed to get an out in the same play, but the Tigers weren't done yet. Ian Nguyen
(2-for-5) knocked an RBI single and Marc DiCarlo, Jr. (2-for-3) drilled a three-run home run to give RCC an early 6-0 lead.
The Jaguars got one back in the bottom half of the inning, but Riverside tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh. With two runners on and no outs, Nguyen drove in the first run before DiCarlo grabbed his fourth RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to put Riverside up 8-1.
Southwestern made things interesting and scored one run in the seventh and three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but RCC held onto the 8-5 victory.
The Tigers return to Orange Empire Conference action on Tuesday as they begin a three-game series with Cypress College on the road at 2 p.m.
