
Riverside Rolls Past AVC in First Game of SoCal Regional
No. 12-ranked Riverside City College scored early and often in a 9-1 victory over Antelope Valley College to open the 3C2A SoCal Regional First Round.
The Tigers improve to 29-12 on the year, while the Marauders drop to 27-14 overall.
Riverside finished with 12 hits on the day, with Logan Clear leading the charge with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Parker Sobiesiak also had multiple hits for the Tigers (2-for-4).
In their first chance at the plate, the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Bubba Heidler (1-for-5) scored first before Eddie Alfaro (1-for-2, three walks) came home on a Sobiesiak single.
The Tigers scored in every inning except the fourth and eighth, including a two-run homer from Ian Nguyen (1-for-5) in the sixth, to rack up a 9-1 lead.
Erik Rodriguez (3-0) picked up his third win of the year after throwing six strikeouts in nine innings and allowing just one unearned run on the mound for RCC.
RCC and AVC are back at Evans Sports Complex on Saturday to close the best-of-three series. Saturday's action begins at 1 p.m., with the Tigers batting first. If the Marauders take game two, the two teams will battle in a third game approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second game.
