Baseball Plates Season-High 19 Runs in Win over Santa Ana

Baseball Plates Season-High 19 Runs in Win over Santa Ana

The Riverside City College baseball team banged out a season-high 19 runs in a victory over the Santa Ana College Dons on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers had production up and down the lineup highlighted by a seven run third inning followed by seven more runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings leading to a 19-6 rout.

The Tigers boat raced the Dons by scoring almost half of their runs in the first three innings. Freshman catcher Steve Ramirez put the Tigers on the board first by blasting his third round tripper of the season. The offense was contagious as seven runs came around in the top of the third inning.

Sophomore Andrew Talkington began the third inning melee with a sacrifice fly out, scoring freshman second baseman Alex Moreno. After a hit by pitch and a walk, the Tigers loaded the bases with one out. Sophomore shortstop Matt Happ wore a pitch to send freshman right fielder Ulises Caballero home. Sophomore Joseph Hodapp followed with a two RBI single, backed by a two RBI triple from freshman third baseman Matthew Ivancich. Sophomore center fielder Junior Coleman capped the inning with a double down the left field line, sending Ivancich home, leading to a 9-1 advantage.

Happ continued to swing a hot bat later in the game by barreling a bases-clearing double down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore pinch hitter Kase Warner followed the next inning by double down the right field line to send in two runs, while freshman Dylan Morace backed him with a sacrifice fly out eventually leading to the victory.

Riverside utilized a grip of arms with sophomore Ethan Sach earning the start. He only lasted 2.1 innings after allwing five runs on three hits. Freshman southpaw Brandon Ross relieved him midway through the third inning and performed well. He fanned four batters and allowed a mere run off four hits leading to his second win of the season.

Freshman reliever Kenny Kim was the most successful out of the bullpen after chucking a scoreless eighth inning leading to one punch out.
