Tigers Send All Three Doubles Teams to 3C2A Quarterfinals

Riverside City College has all three doubles teams still competing at the 3C2A State Championship after the second day of the tournament.

Michael Chang and Lance Lao won their first match Friday with a 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 victory before grabbing a 4-6, 7-5 [10-2] tiebreaker win in the Sweet 16 to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Augustin Daubannay and Ronith Sreeram are also still competing as a team, dominating their first opponent 6-0, 6-1 before grabbing another lopsided win (6-2, 6-1) in the Sweet 16 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.

Giovanne Recchia and Charalampos Plataniotis also advanced to the quarterfinals after picking up a 6-0, 6-2 victory to start Friday and followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win in the Sweet 16 to advance to Saturday.

In singles action, Chang grabbed a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the Round of 32 and had to battle once again in the Sweet 16 but came up just short in a three-set match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Sreeram battled from behind to grab a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) three-set win in the Round of 32, but had to withdraw from his Sweet 16 match due to injury.

Daubannay couldn't overcome his Round of 32 opponent, falling 6-0, 6-2.

Lao/Chang take on Thomas Lynch and Hunter Lynch from San Diego City College, Daubannay/Sreeram will face Adam Ridaoui and David Tinajero from Glendale College, and Recchia/Plataniotis drew Luciano Pardo and Nick Grove from Irvine Valley College in Saturday's quarterfinals, which are set to begin at 2 p.m.
