Tigers Open OEC Action Victorious

Riverside City College opened Orange Empire Conference action with a close 5-4 victory over rival Irvine Valley College Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 5-3 on the year and begin conference at 1-0, while the Lasers drop to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the OEC.

RCC swept the doubles competition, with Ronith Sreeram/Augustin Daubannay and Giovanne Recchia/Charalampos Plataniotis grabbing quick wins. Lance Lao and Michael Chang battled to a 9-8 victory to give the Tigers an early lead heading into singles matches.

Sreeram and Recchia won their individual matches, with Sreeram grabbing a 6-4, 7-6 (7) win and Recchia battling to a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory.

RCC hits the road for its next three matches, first heading to Orange Coast College on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
