Tigers Battle in Final Tuneup Before Conference

Riverside City College took on Ventura College Tuesday afternoon in its last match before starting conference, coming up just short in a 5-4 loss.

The Tigers drop to 4-3 overall, while the Pirates improve to 2-0 on the year.

Michael Chang and Ronith Sreeram had stellar days for the Tigers, both dominating their singles matches and grabbing wins in doubles action.

Chang and Lance Lao grabbed an 8-4 victory in the top doubles spot, while Sreeram and Augustin Daubannay beat their doubles opponents 8-3. Chang went on to win 6-2, 6-1 in his No. 1 singles match, while Sreeram picked up a 6-4, 6-0 win in the No. 2 spot.

The Tigers battled in tiebreakers in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots, with the Pirates just edging out with the wins.

RCC turns its focus to Orange Empire Conference action with a match against Irvine Valley College on Thursday at 2 p.m.
