Riverside Secures OEC Championship

Riverside Secures OEC Championship

Riverside City College clinched the Orange Empire Conference Championship Thursday with a 6-3 victory at Irvine Valley College.

The Tigers improve to 13-4 overall and 7-0 in conference, while the Lasers drop to 8-2 on the year and 5-2 in the OEC.

Ronith Sreeram and Augustin Daubannay won their doubles match 9-8 but RCC found itself trailing 2-1 after doubles.

Giovanne Recchia won the first singles match in two sets (6-2, 6-1) before Daubannay won his match in two (7-6 (2), 6-4) to put the Tigers in front, 3-2.

IVC won at the No. 4 spot to tie things up at 3-3 in the team score, but Sreeram battled from behind to win his match in three (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5)) and Michael Chang secured the team victory with a battle at the No. 1 spot (6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-3). Charalampos Plataniotis finished the match off in three sets (7-5, 5-7, 6-3).

Riverside closes out the regular season on Tuesday, hosting Orange Coast College at 2 p.m.
