Tigers Trample Hornets

Riverside City College put together a big fourth inning en route to a 10-4 victory over Fullerton College Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 24-12 overall and 9-8 in the Orange Empire Conference, while the Hornets drop to 21-15 on the year, 9-8 in conference.

Ryan Jenkins continued his dominance on the mound, throwing four strikeouts in six innings to pick up his sixth win of the year. Dylan Plutner picked up a save after throwing three innings, scattering two hits and striking out two batters.

Six Tigers had hits in the game with Richard Tejeda leading the charge with two hits. He also drew a walk, scored one run and batted in three runs. Eddie Alfaro went 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, while Parker Sobiesiak, Logan Ortega, Arturo Rodriguez, and Gage Gonzales also had a hit for RCC.

Fullerton struck first with a run in the first, but RCC took the lead in the bottom of the third with two runs after Tejeda drove in two runs with a base hit through the right side.

Riverside scored seven runs in the fourth to jump out to a 9-1 lead and all but seal the victory. With bases loaded and no outs, Gonzales tucked a double just inside the right-field line to send two runs in. Alfaro and Tejeda had back-to-back RBI singles before a wild pitch sent another runner home. Ortega capped the scoring with an RBI single through the right side before Fullerton could get out of the jam.

The Tigers and Hornets close out the series on Saturday in Fullerton, with the first pitch set for noon.
