Tigers Win Nonconference Battle With Vaqueros
In back-and-forth action, Riverside City College came out on top with a 5-4 nonconference victory over Santa Barbara City College.
The Tigers improve to 19-9 overall, while the Vaqueros drop to 16-11 on the year.
Five Tigers finished with hits in the game: Parker Sobiesiak, Eddy Alfaro, Ian Nguyen, Richard Tejeda, and Marcus Moyer.
RCC scored first but found itself trailing 3-2 in the top of the sixth.
Things changed in the bottom of the eighth, however, as Alfaro scored the tying run on a wild pitch before Tejeda knocked a base hit up the middle to drive in another run. RCC then loaded the bases with no outs before Tejeda tagged up from third on a caught foul ball to add some insurance, 5-3.
In the top of the ninth, the Vaqueros made things interesting by scoring one run and putting the tying runner on first, but Dakota Gray came in on relief and struck out back-to-back batters to secure the win for RCC.
Charlie McBride grabbed the win on the mound for the Tigers, while Gray picked up his first save of the year.
Riverside returns to conference action on Tuesday, hitting the road for a 2 p.m. contest at Irvine Valley College.
