Baseball Routes LA Pierce in Season-High Runs Output

A total of 17 batters and seven pitchers stepped between the lines tonight as the Riverside City College baseball team hosted the Los Angeles Pierce College Brahams under the lights at Evans Sports Complex in non-conference action. The committee effort on the bump and at the dished boded well for the Tigers as they plated 17 runs off 15 hits while allowing a mere three runs leading to the 17-3 victory.

Riverside's 17 runs was a season high and the 13th time they have scored in the double digits. Additionally, it is the second time in the past four games the Tigers plated 10 or more runs. They banged out 15 hits with seven of them going for extra bases including a season-high three triples from freshman trio Rei Shobuya, Matthew Bardowell and Casey Murray.

Bardowell finished the night going 4-for-5 with a triple, double, four RBI and two runs score. Murray, who has been slotted as the Tigers' every day left fielder, went 3-for-6 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored.

The top of the first inning set the tone for the Tigers as they etched seven runs to take hold of the contest early. After the Tigers worked the bases loaded, freshman first baseman Daniel Garcia was hit by a pitch, scoring the Tigers first run in the form of freshman center fielder Julian Alvarez. Freshman shortstop Darius Price followed by rawing a bases loaded walk, backed by another bases-juiced hit by pitch from Shobuya.

Murray kept the RBI train chugging with a three-RBI triple, scoring Garcia, Price and Shobuya. J. Alvarez capped the melee with an RBI single through the left side in his second at bat of the inning, leading to a 7-0 advantage.

Much like the offensive efforts, the pitching prowess has been on display as they Tigers' staff has allowed four or less runs in the past four wins.

Sophomore southpaw Jon Mocherman graced the rubber and tossed a scoreless three innings while allowing just one hit. From the fourth inning on, the Tigers rolled out a different arm every inning. Freshman Philip Ledesma and Albert Roblez each fanned three batters in their one inning of action, while sophomore Ryan Hernandez slammed the door with two punch outs in the top of the ninth inning.
