
Multiple Tigers Qualify for SoCal Championship
Riverside City College competed at the 3C2A SoCal Regional Prelims Friday, with multiple Tigers securing their spots in next week's championship.
In the only final event of the day, Nadia Munoz took fourth in the 10K after crossing the finish line in 37 minutes, 51.16 seconds. Savannah Ganter also finished in the top 10, taking seventh with a time of 39:18.64.
Ganter posted the best 3K steeplechase time out of both heats, finishing in 11:30.06 to advance to the finals next week. Dakota Zamarripa also qualified for the finals after crossing the finish line in 11:49.32.
Tiana Burgess and Joace Warrior each qualified for the 100-meter hurdles championship after Burgess won her heat with a time of 14.68 seconds, while Warrior posted the second-best time in her heat at 14.71 seconds.
Cierra Ellis and Briana Miller will each compete in the 400-meter finals after posting respective times of 58.72 and 58.73 seconds.
Jolene Ruth Lavaki earned her spot in the 100-meter dash championship after crossing the finish line in 12.47 seconds. She will also compete in the 200-meter dash finale along with Ellis (25.14 seconds) after posting a time of 25.20 seconds in the prelims.
Kiana Ikeda secured the last spot in the 400-meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 1:08.46.
The Tigers' 4x400 relay team won their heat and had the second-fastest time of the day at 3:58.50 to advance to next week's championship.
In the field, four Tigers earned their spots in the discus final, led by Isabelle Campos (41.79 meters). Alma Franco (35.54 meters), Rylee Blanton (33.88 meters), and Esra Mor (32.46 meters) also qualified.
Campos (44.89 meters), Blanton (43.86 meters), and Mor (39.61 meters) also secured their spot in the hammer final, along with Miracle Crawford (39.19 meters). Mor and Franco will represent RCC in the shot put after posting qualifying throws of 11.47 meters and 10.72 meters, respectively.
Warrior and Burgess finished with top-12 marks in the long jump to qualify for the finals with Warrior posting a jump of 5.48 meters and Burgess finishing 5.33 meters. Burgess (10.95 meters) also earned her spot in the triple jump championship, along with Michelle Palacios Alvidrez (10.61 meters).
The 3C2A SoCal Championship takes place next Friday, where Tigers will look to earn their ticket to the 3C2A State Championship the following week.
