
RCC's Relay Team Leads Tigers to Finish Second at State Championship
Riverside City College took second overall at the 2025 3C2A Women's Track and Field State Championship, held Friday and Saturday at the College of San Mateo.
The Tigers posted 75 points as a team, while Modesto Junior College won the meet with 91.50 points.
RCC capped the weekend off with a win in the 4x400 relay, the second consecutive year the Tigers have won the event. Janel Lugo-Bourbonnias, Kiarah Rivers, Catalina Teran and Taleyah Graves teamed up to post a time of three minutes, 53.65 seconds to beat out their competition by almost a full second.
Nadia Munoz got the weekend started on the track with a third-place finish in the 10K, clocking in at 38 minutes, 18.46 seconds. The next day she took 10th in the 5K, clocking in at 18:41.55.
Kierstin Marpaung also took third in the triple jump Friday, finishing with a jump of 11.08 meters, while Esre Mor grabbed sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.68 meters.
Teran and Joace Warrior both got on the podium in the long jump, with Teran taking third and Warrior finishing in seventh. Terran posted a 5.56-meter jump on her fifth try, while Warrior's best mark of 5.40 meters came on her first jump of the day.
Victoria Redd grabbed the best field finish for the Tigers, taking second overall in the discus. After sitting in third heading into her final attempt, Redd hurled a mark of 44.68 meters on her last try to take second place and was just over a meter behind the top spot. Mor also competed in the discus and took ninth overall with a throw of 39.72 meters.
RCC's 4x100 relay team of Kyndall Hayes, Teran, Rivers and Graves got the track portion of Saturday's competition off on a high note, taking second overall in 47.71 seconds.
Teran also took fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.04 seconds and grabbed fifth in the 200-meter dash (25.04 seconds). Rivers also got on the podium in the 200-meter race, crossing the finish line in 25.35 seconds to take seventh.
Graves finished third in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:03.52 – just one second behind first place.
Warrior and Marpaung finished one right after the other in the 100-meter hurdles to take fourth and fifth, respectively. Warrior clocked in at 14.77 seconds, while Marpaung followed in 14.88 seconds.
Redd and Nyah Brown also competed in the State Championship shot put competition, just sitting outside the podium. Redd finished in ninth place with a toss of 11.61 meters, while Brown followed in 10th with a mark of 11.56 meters.
