Riverside Wins 12th Consecutive OEC Championship

Riverside City College grabbed its 12th consecutive Orange Empire Conference Championship, with six Tigers winning individual titles on the day. The Tigers finished with 344 points, followed by Orange Coast College with 221 points.

Tiana Burgess won the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 14.44 seconds – almost two full seconds faster than her competition. Kiana Ikeda took second in 16.26 seconds.

Burgess also grabbed the title in the triple jump, posting a jump of 11.33 meters, while Michelle Palacios Alvidrez took second with a mark of 10.86 meters.

Jolene Ruth Lavaki picked up the championship in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 12.13 seconds. Burgess followed with a time of 12.61 seconds for second.

Lavaki won her second championship of the day with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 24.87 seconds. Cierra Ellis followed in 25.21 seconds.

Both of Riverside's relay teams won, with the 4x100 team posting a time of 47.50 seconds and the 4x400 team taking first in 3:57.41.

Lidia Barrios took third in the 1500-meter race, clocking in at 5:19.19.

Ellis was runner-up in the 400-meter race (56.57 seconds), while Briana Miller finished third in 58.70 seconds.

Kasey Plumb finished the 800-meter race in 2:24.01 to take second, while Ikeda was runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.78).

Nadia Munoz and Savannah Ganter went second and third in the 5K, posting respective times of 18:30.21 and 18:41.50.

Isabelle Campos finished third in the javelin, posting a mark of 26.34 meters, while Joace Warrior took third in the high jump with a mark of 1.45 meters.

Rylee Blanton led a bunch of Tigers in the discus, hurling a throw of 40.68 meters to take second. Campos followed in third with a toss of 38.61 meters.

RCC heads to the Southern California Championship next, with prelims taking place on Friday, May 3, at 9 a.m.
