Riverside City College men's water polo made its season debut with a doubleheader in its home pool and swept both games comfortably, with a 20-4 win over Chaffey College and 23-5 victory against Rio Hondo College. The Tigers improve to 7-3 on the year in the process.
In the first game against Chaffey, the Tigers raced out to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter and expanded their lead to eight, 11-3, going into halftime.
Luke Bills (six goals, two assists) and Lennon Franklin (five goals, three assists, four steals) both posted eight points in RCC's win over Chaffey, while Colby Martin notched six points (three goals, three assists) and 10 steals. In the cage, Adrian Thompson added 11 saves and an assist.
The result was never in doubt with Rio Hondo, as RCC scored the first seven goals of the game and expanded the lead to 12, 14-2, about two minutes into the second half.
Bills posted six goals, three steals, and an assist in the game, while Nathan Ferguson tacked on four goals, two assists, and two steals. Franklin added five steals, two goals, and two assists for the Tigers, who got hat tricks from Jace Johnson and Darian Thompson.
The Tigers will look to keep up the home cooking for its second Orange Empire Conference game of the year when Fullerton College visits Riverside on Wednesday, September 18 for a 4:15 p.m. first sprint.
