
Tigers Split Pair of Games in Own Mini Tournament Friday
RIVERSIDE --Gaining a split of a pair of games in its own mini tournament, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo team lost, 13-9, to the visiting Long Beach City College (LBCC) Vikings before defeating the Grossmont College Griffins, 19-9, Friday (Oct. 16) at RCC's Riverside Aquatics Center.
In the opener against Long Beach City, Riverside (12-7 overall) trailed, 3-1, after the first quarter, 6-3 at halftime and was behind, 10-6, heading into the final stanza.
RCC was paced by freshman driver Lazar Raca (Belgrade, SERBIA), who had three goals and one assist.Sophomore utility player Justin Rohn (San Bernardino / San Gorgonio HS '14) had one goal, three assists and two steals. Freshman goalkeeper Dustin Shaw (Riverside / Poly HS '15) had eight saves.
In the nightcap against Grossmont, the Tigers led, 6-3 after the first eight minutes, 10-5 at halftime and 15-6 after three cantos.
Once again, Raca led the Tigers in scoring with three goals, two assists and five steals. Sophomore center Trevor Tripp (Beaumont / Beaumont HS '14) also had three goals and added one assist. Shaw logged four saves and freshman GK Blake Vazmendes (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS '15) had one save in relief.
Riverside will have a bye from Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The Tigers will next see action on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 23-24, in the Golden West Invitational.
