After starting the month with three-consecutive losses, the Riverside City College men's water polo team has been quick to rebound as seen in two wins in the Riverside Tournament last weekend. The Tigers matched their strongest point spread victory in a win over Cypress with the final score reading 17-4.
It is the second Orange Empire Conference (OEC) victory for the Tigers this season as they currently sit in third place.
Riverside blanked the Chargers in the first and fourth period and held them to a mere two goals each in the second and third periods. The Tiger's efforts were highlighted by a six-goal outburst in the third period with Fülöp Hegyi firing home three of the scores.
Hegyi paced the Tigers on the offensive front with five total goals. In the last three victories, he has netted four or more goals as seen in matching his season-high mark of five goals he set just last weekend. He has netted a total of 16 goals the past four games. Furthremore, he assisted on four goals to prove his well-rounded attack.
Sophomore Leonardo Monges picked up his seventh victory after recording 10 saves and dishing out four assists.
Riverside (7-9, 2-1 OEC) will continue action on Friday, October 18 against Palomar at the RCC Mini Tournament. The game is set to begin at 11:45 a.m.
