
Tigers Poloists Defeat San Joaquin Delta & Cabrillo to Remain Undefeated (at 4-0)
SARATOGA -- Gaining a conventional win and one via forfeit, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo team won another pair of games Friday (Sept. 11) to remain undefeated after four games in the last two days.
RCC (4-0 overall) opened Friday's action with an 11-4 win over the San Joaquin Delta College (SJDC) Mustangs before RCC was awarded a 5-0 forfeit win when the Cabrillo College Seahawks didn't have enough player to compete.
In the win over SJDC, a quartet of Tigers each scored a pair of goals: freshman utility player Kyle Christian (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15), freshman driver Lazar Raca (Belgrade, SERBIA), freshman driver Jesus Osorio (San Bernardino / Cajon HS '15), and freshman utility player Jacob Gonzalez (Hemet / Hemet HS '15),
Against SJDC, the Tigers posted leads of 3-1 after the first quarter, 7-2 at halftime, and 9-3 after three quarters
Freshman goalie Dustin Shaw (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15) had five saves and fellow freshman goalie Blake Vazmendes (Yucaipa / Yucaipa '15) had six saves.
Tournament action will continue on Saturday, Sept. 12, when RCC faces the Cuesta College Cougars in semifinal action at 10:30 a.m. RCC is also scheduled to play at 2:15 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
RCC head coach Jason Northcott (CS San Bernardino '09) is in his third year at the Tigers' helm. Northcott has an overall won-lost record of 17-26 for the two previous seasons.
After this weekend, the Tigers will continue action on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 18-19, when they participate in the annual Cuesta College Tournament in San Luis Obispo.
