Tigers Lose, 8-7, in Last Three Seconds to Visiting Long Beach Friday
RIVERSIDE -- Losing a well-played game in the final three seconds, the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo team dropped a tough 8-7 non-conference decision to the visiting Long Beach City College (LBCC) Vikings Friday afternoon (Oct. 14) at the annual RCC Mini Tournament at the Riverside Aquatic Complex on the RCC campus.
It was the only men's game played at RCC on the day.
Riverside City (13-5 overall) led, 3-1, at the end of the first quarter, and led, 4-3, at halftime, but trailed, 6-5, after three quarters.
RCC sophomore driver Lazar Raca (Belgrade, SERBIA / Sports School '15) -- who is pictured -- led the Tigers with four goals. Sophomore utility player Kyle Christian (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15) had two assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Kristopher McVeigh (Riverside / Riverside Poly HS '16) had seven saves.
Gavin Kunkle scored with 2.58 seconds remaining in the game to break a 7-7 tie and lift LBCC to the victory and avoid overtime. LBCC is 13-3 overall and currentluy co-leads the South Coast Conference at 4-0.
Riverside will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when it hosts the Saddleback College Gauchos in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game at 4 p.m. RCC is 2-1 in OEC action.
