Men’s Water Polo's Victory Over Palomar Highlights RCC Tournament Action

The Riverside City College men's water polo team hosted one of the largest tournaments of the year this past weekend and participated in four of the games. The Tigers struggled to a 1-3 record highlighted by a 13-5 victory over the Palomar College Comets.
In the victory, Riverside took control from the opening sprint by grabbing a quick 3-0 lead. Sophomore driver Tyler Strabel (Lake Elsinore, CA) kicked off the contest with a score, backed by a netter off the hand of sophomore driver Pedro Osorio (San Bernardino, CA). Freshman driver Bo Loftin (Mira Loma, CA) capped off the first-quarter scoring with a goal to hand the Tigers a 3-2 advantage.
The Tigers followed with three more goals in the second quarter as freshman center Jacob Bills (Redlands, CA) fired home a pair of goals. Osorio added his second score of the game to give the Tigers a two goal lead entering the second half.
Loftin continued the upward offensive trend with a set of netters in the third frame, backed by a goal from freshman driver Norbert Kovacs (Budapest). Freshman driver Billy Maze (Mira Loma, CA) hummed home a score as time expired leading to a comfortable 10-4 advantage.
Kovacs and Maze continued as second-half threats with a goal each followed by the lone score form sophomore driver Andrew Kucenas (Corona, CA) en route to a 13-5 win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kristopher McVeigh (Riverside, CA) patrolled the pipes for eight saves and snatched three steals in the process. Loftin lead all scorers with three netters. Strabel steadied the defense by pocketing five steals.
The Tigers (7-9, 1-1 OEC) will hope to keep the winning streak alive by returning to conference action against the Orange Coast College Pirates on Wednesday, October 11th at 3 p.m.
