Tigers Take Two From Bulldogs

Riverside City College took a break from Orange Empire Conference action Saturday afternoon and grabbed two wins over Allan Hancock College: 8-0 (six innings) and 7-2.

The Tigers improved to 9-18 overall, while the Bulldogs drop to 6-11.

In the opener, Alysse Flores and Destiny Amezcua both led Riverside with 3-for-4 performances. Carissa O'Neil (2-for-2), Abigail Baldwin (2-for-3), and Isabella Ramirez (2-for-4) also had multiple hits in the game, while Jocelyn Romero (1-for-4) and Angelina Sanchez (1-for-2) also had hits.

Flores got things going with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first before Rebeca Razo walked in a run in the second.

The Tigers threatened to put the run rule in play in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs on five hits and one error. Sanchez scored the first run of the inning off a Bulldog error before Flores drove in another RBI with a base hit to center field. Ramirez kept the two-out rally going with a single that scored two runners, but Allan Hancock got the third out before RCC could do any more damage.

Riverside ended the game early in the bottom of the sixth, however, as Baldwin came home on an Amezcua base hit, 8-0.

Jessica Gaitan picked up the win and threw seven strikeouts to grab her first shutout of the year.

In the nightcap, four Tigers had multiple hits: Romero (2-for-3), O'Neil (2-for-4), Razo (2-for-4), and Ramirez (2-for-3). Baldwin (1-for-3) and Raquel Razo (1-for-3) also had hits to help the Tigers post 10 hits in the game.

Once again, RCC struck first with three runs in the second. Romero walked in the first run and O'Neil drove in two more to put the Tigers up 3-0.

The Bulldogs kept things close and pulled within 3-2, but Riverside tacked on four more runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Raquel Razo drove in two with a deep single to center, followed by two more RBI singles to center, one from Romero and one from Rebeca Razo.

Alianna Arroyo picked up the win, while Gaitan grabbed a save in the circle for the Tigers.

RCC returns to OEC action on Tuesday, heading to Fullerton on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
