Consistent Offense Leads Tigers past San Diego City

Consistent Offense Leads Tigers past San Diego City

The Riverside City College softball team scored in all but two innings on Tuesday afternoon as they played host to the San Diego City College Knights in non-conference action. Riverside banged out 10 hits and plated seven runs in a commanding victory to mark their third straight victory.

The Tigers have strung together three straight wins and have come out on top in four of their last five games. Today they leaned on a consistent offensive attack and a strong pitching performance from freshman Erika Gibbs.

San Diego City struck first with a run in the opening frame, but were blanked the rest of the way. Gibbs came back out for her second inning of duties and quickly made work of the next six batters by retiring them in order. She fanned one in the process.

The Tigers pushed across their first runs in the bottom of the third inning compliments of a two-out, two RBI triple from freshman catcher Cassidy Cooper. Freshman left fielder Alyssa Carlisle and sophomore center fielder Sophia Franco-Colis scored on the play.

Two more runs came around to score in the Tiger's favor starting with a sacrifice ground out from freshman shortstop Destinee Gonzales, plating freshman third baseman Summer Sanders. Freshman designated player Adrianna Montalvo followed by sending sophomore right fielder Alexis Pelayo home on a sacrifice groundout to the shortstop to extend their lead.

Carlisle continued to swing the bat well by adding a Riverside insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning. She poked a single through the left side to score sophomore second baseman Sarah Franco-Colis.

The Tigers added two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after Pelayo led the inning off with a two-bagger. She came around to score on a single to center field from A. Montalvo. She later touched home on a fielding error, eventually leading to a 7-1 win.

Gibbs (4-5) earned the win after going the distance and allowing just one run and scattering seven hits. She struck out one batter.

Carlisle went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run score, while Pelayo went a flawless 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Sa. Franco-Colis barreled two hits, while A. Montalvo and Cooper each notched two RBI.
