Men’s Track & Field Sees Leading Marks at OEC Prelims

The Riverside City College men's track & field team traveled to Golden West College on Friday to participate in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) prelims. The Tigers had a strong day as they qualified a deep number of student-athletes leading into the championship finals next Friday.

Abel Ramos earned the top spot in the 3000 M Steeplechase (10:05.07), while Raen Reyes (10:07.49) was a mere two second behind him in second place. Mario Tavares snapped the tape in the 1500 M (4:13.80), while Gonzalo Sanchez (4:18.95) was nipping at his heals in second place. Sanchez also placed second in the 800 M (1:57.37), followed by a third place finish from Kyle Reden (1:57.89).

RIverside swept the top five positions in the 10,000 M with David Rush (32:13.65) placing first overall. Gavyn Condit (32:15.24), Ramos (32:55.69), Salvador Avila (32:56.37) and Nicandro Rosas (32:56.37) all snagged the top spots.

The sprints squad showed up as Dominic Boykins earned the fastest time in the 100 M (10.90), while Lorenzo Boyd (10.91) fell marginally behind to earn second place. Irvin Barajas (11.23) qualified with a ninth place finish. Boykins also placed second in the 200 M (22.22).

Tyler Howard snapped the tape in the 400 M Hurdles (54.82), while Matthew Siggins (56.93) and Joshua Hornsby (57.13) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Donal Aluesi continued to destroy the competition with a top finish in the Hammer (177' 5") and Shot Put (51' 7"). Logan Orlando placed second in the Hammer (131' 2"), while Allan Rennie placed third in the Shot Put (45' ½"). Furthermore, DeQuan Guillebeau placed second in the Javelin (156' 7"), while Jacob Rahner placed third (150' 6").

Novye James finished with the silver medal in the Long Jump (23' ½") and Darius Hill (22' 6 ¼") finished slightly behind in third place
