
Riverside Posts Top Marks at Mt. SAC Relays
Riverside City College competed at the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday, its last meet before looking to defend its Orange Empire Conference Championship later this month.
Marcellus Linton won the 100-meter dash in 10.49 seconds, which is the fourth-best time in the 3C2A. Jason Sherman took fifth with a time of 10.72 seconds.
Kailil O'Brien won the 5K, while three other Tigers finished in the top 10. O'Brien clocked in at 15:20.57, while Joshua West took third in 15:42.21 and Edward Garcia posted a time of 15:55.53. Damion Spralls rounded out the quartet with a sixth-place finish in 16:10.10.
The Tigers' 4x400 relay team (Orlando Collins, Daniel Agbelusi, Sherman, Linton) won in 3:25.37. Their time of 3:13.10 from the Triton Invite is the best time in the 3C2A right now.
Justice Brown won the shot put with a heave of 15.34 meters. Jace Collins finished in second (14.75 meters), while Adam Torres took fifth (13.51 meters).
Torres won the hammer, throwing 54.63 meters on both his first and last tries, which ranks second in the State. Isaiah Butler followed in second with a mark of 53.00 meters (third in the 3C2A), while Omar Sanchez took third with a mark of 41.96 meters.
Butler won the discus after throwing a 53.76-meter toss on his last try, which sits second in the State. Joseph Garcia followed in second at 46.37 meters and Sanchez grabbed third with a mark of 46.23 meters – the fifth-best mark in the 3C2A.
Bryson Williamson won the high jump with a mark of 2.05 meters. That mark moved him into the top spot in the state rankings.
Anthony Ruiz finished runner-up in the 1500-meter race, crossing the finish line in 3:58.14. Ruiz and Martin Sandoval took fourth and fifth in the 800-meters with respective times of 1:56.84 and 1:59.11. Ruiz holds the fourth-fastest time in the 1500-meter and fifth-fastest 800-meter time in the 3C2A.
Agbelusi took second in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 54.67 seconds. His season-best time of 54.30 seconds sits fourth in the 3C2A.
Devyn Smith grabbed two top 10 finishes in jump events. He was runner-up in the triple jump at 13.96 meters and took ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.27 meters. Jason Allen and Tony Wright also finished in the top five of the triple jump, posting marks of 13.63 and 13.35 meters, respectively.
Anthony McCullough took third in the javelin with a mark of 45.17 meters. James Henderson and Jack Slavin followed in eighth and ninth with respective tosses of 40.23 and 37.99 meters.
Jared Schulte grabbed third in the 400-meters after clocking in at 48.68 seconds, while Orlando Collins followed in 49.34 seconds. Schulte currently has the 13th-best time in the State, while Collins sits ninth.
Tschaikowsky Brown took third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.82 seconds (fourth best in the State), followed by Rowan Hudson – who also sits fifth in the State with his time from the Mangrum Invitational – in sixth with a time of 15.13.
Leo Valencia posted a time of 10:10.71 in the 3K steeplechase to take third, while Angel Gomez grabbed eighth in 10:35.74.
The Tigers head to the OEC Prelims on Friday, while the championship will conclude the following weekend back at Orange Coast College.
