Tigers Battle in SoCal Championship

Riverside City College battled but ultimately fell 5-3 to Orange Coast College in the 3C2A SoCal Regional Championship Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers end the year with an impressive 17-3 team record, while the Pirates improve to 22-1 and advance to the State Championship.

It was close throughout the entire day, with OCC taking a slight 2-1 edge after doubles action.

Five of the six singles matches then went to a full three sets, before the Pirates managed to clinch the win.

Emily Thieme won in two sets (6-4, 6-4) at the number one spot and Madison Reynosa battled to grab a 2-1 victory (6-2, 2-6, 7-5) in the five spot.

While RCC might not be able to compete for the team title, the Tigers are ready to take on the 3C2A State Championship in Ojai, Calif., next week after qualifying three doubles and four singles for the tournament.
