Women’s Tennis Sends Four Singles, Three Doubles to State Championships

The Riverside City College women's tennis program finished the final day of the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Singles & Doubles Championships on Friday afternoon. The Tigers saw four singles players and three doubles squads qualify for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships to be hosted in Ojai, CA.

SINGLES

Four singles players punched their ticket to the big dance starting with freshman Kaden Richards. Richards earned a first-round bye followed by a second round win completed in three sets. She defeated Saddleback's Emily West y the final count of 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.

Freshman Monica Carrillo made it to the final four in the bracket to highlight Riverside's efforts. She won her first match, 6-3, 6-2, then advanced to the round of eight due to an opponent injury. She eventually advanced to the round of four by winning the first set 6-0, but her opening dropped out again due to injury.

Freshman Adrielle Fotchi qualified yesterday with a first round win at 6-2, 6-0, while sophomore Susana Iniguez bagged a first round bye to earn a qualifying bid.

DOUBLES

Richards and Iniguez, who are the Tigers top doubles pairing, won their opening-round match by the final score of 8-1 to earn a bid. They fell in their second match, 4-8.

Freshman Christa McDowell and sophomore Haley Dunkel had the easiest route to the championships as they advanced in their match due to injury. Carrillo and Fotchi fell 4-8 in their match.
