No. 2 Women’s Tennis Defeats No. 7 Bakersfield in SoCal Regional Round One

The Riverside City College women's tennis team earned the second seed in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional playoffs and hosted the seventh-seeded Bakersfield College Renegades in the first round. The Tigers wasted no time getting down to business by sweeping doubles play leading to a 5-0 victory.

After a Spring II season that did not see any playoff action, Riverside was hungry to fight for a state title.

Sophomore Torrey Mateljan and freshman Keeley Arendt teamed up as the top doubles team and worked an 8-4 win to set the tone. Freshman tandem Marvonna Vaxter and Semaj Walter mirrored the 8-4 win at the third position, while freshman number two duo Samantha Treat and Jillian Stark cruised to an 8-3 triumph.

Riverside needed just two more wins to seal the deal and Mateljan responded quick with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the top. Arendt followed at the third position with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

The Tigers advance to the second round of the CCCAA Southern Regional playoffs with the win and will host the fifth-seeded College of the Desert on Tuesday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
