Women’s Tennis Named Co-Conference Championship after defeating Fullerton 9-0

It was all business for the Riverside City College women's tennis team as they hosted the Fullerton College Hornets in their final Orange Empire Conference (OEC) regular season match of the year. Riverside made quick work of the Hornets by defeating them 9-0 in straight set sweeps.

With the victory, the Tigers claim the Co-Conference Championship. They share the title with the Orange Coast College Pirates after both finishing with a 7-1 record.

After a strong Spring II season, Riverside returned hungry with key returners that shaped a sturdy, reliable lineup. A flexible lineup that featured multiple pairings lost a lone conference match buy one point, proving to be the strongest team in conference.

Singles play saw the Tigers barely lose a single game in the sets. The top three singles players that featured sophomore Torrey Mateljan, freshman Samantha Treat and freshman Jillian Stark each earned 6-0, 6-0 wins. Freshman Susana Iniguez earned a 6-0, 6-2 at the fourth position.

Freshman Keeley Arendt and Mateljan teamed up at the top doubles position to take home an easy 8-2 win, while Treat and Stark cruised to an 8-1 win at the second position.

The third doubles and the fifth and sixth singles were all won by Riverside via forfeit.

The Tigers finish the season 10-2 with a 7-1 conference record. They await pairings in the OEC Championship Tournament beginning Thursday, April 7.
