Tigers Run Well at Coyote Challenge
SAN BERNARDINO - Nadia Munoz paced Riverside City College on the women's side while Kailil O'Brien led the Tiger men on Saturday at the Coyote Challenge, hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
In the women's 5k, Munoz was the first RCC runner across the line, finishing 12th in a time of 19:07.0. Citaly Ruiz was the second Tiger to finish, taking 26th in a time of 20:42.7, followed shortly behind by Celeste Mendoza, who finished 29th in a time of 20:47.6.
Audianna Salgado was 36th in a time of 21:13.1 while Jaiden Kelly (50th, 22:37.3), Isabella Chavez (55th, 23:25.5) and Savanna Martin (57th, 23:27.3) rounded out the RCC scorers. As a team, the Tigers were fourth of five teams. Jade Kingston of Cal Poly Pomona won the race in a time of 18:24.1 and the Broncos also earned the top spot in the team standings.
On the men's side, O'Brien was the 112th runner across the finish line, completing the 8k race in 26:22.2. Daniel Nava was just over 20 seconds behind, taking 15th in a time of 26:46.5, followed by Damian Spralls in 18th with a time of 26:53.3.
Martin Torres-Sandoval was 22nd, finishing in a time of 27:08.4 and Luke Catherwood (27th, 27:29.4), Edward Garcia (28th, 27:29.8) and Anthony Ruiz (29th, 27:38.7) completed the Tigers team score. CPP's Evan Franco won the race in a time of 25:21.6 while his team also finished atop the team standings. The Tigers finished fourth, trailing only CPP and Redlands.
The 2024 season continues on Friday as RCC travels to Chaffey College for the SoCal Preview.
