SYLMAR - Riverside City College got the 2024 season off on the right foot, picking up a pair of wins on the first day of the LA Mission Kickoff Classic. The Tigers earned a pair of 3-1 wins over San Bernardino Valley and Southwestern to open the season 2-0.
In the opener against San Bernardino Valley, RCC used 14 service aces to earn the four-set win (25-19, 26-28 25-17, 25-23). Kilyn Hayes led the Tigers on the attack, putting up 14 kills on 33 total attacks. Abbey Oaks and Jaeda Whitmire each added nine kills while Dani Luna and Kyra Myers put up six kills each in the victory. Alyssa Bishop put up 23 assists to set-up the RCC attack.
In the second match, the Tigers again earned a four-set win (25-16, 25-10, 18-25, 26-24) in the neutral site affair. Hayes again led the Tigers offensively, putting up 28 kills and just four attack errors on 46 swings to hit .522 on the match. Whitmire added 10 kills on 25 swings while Oaks and Harmony Kniss finished with six kills each. Bishop again set up the RCC hitters, finishing with 25 assists in the win.
The Tigers will be back on the court again for two more matches at the LA Mission Kickoff Classic.
