Two Tiger Doubles Teams Advance to 3C2A Sweet 16

Riverside City College battled in the first two days of the 3C2A State Championship and saw two doubles teams advance to the round of 16.

Emily Thieme and Janine Kremling dominated a two-set victory (6-2, 6-0) after a first-round bye to advance to the round of 32, where they picked up another two-set win (6-1, 6-3). They will face College of the Sequoias' Brooke Ray and Summer Herrera in the round of 16, hoping to keep in the hunt for the doubles title.

Denise Campbell and Kaden Richards picked up back-to-back wins in the round of 64 and round of 32 to keep alive in the tournament. The Tiger pair faces Santa Barbara City College's Kate Zeile and Callie Tzab in the round of 16, also looking to keep in the tournament.

Monica Carrillo and Madison Reynoso also had a first-round bye before grabbing a two-set win (6-1, 6-2) in the first match of the day. The pair ultimately fell in a close battle in the round of 32.

In singles action, Kremling had a first-round bye and dominated her way to the round of 16s after defeating Mt. San Jacinto College's Breannah Baron in two (6-0, 6-0) and San Francisco City College's Christina Ling in two (6-1, 6-0). She battled but came up short in the round of 16.

Alexandria Livingston had a first-round bye before defeating Modesto Junior College's Mira Espino in two sets (7-5, 6-1) to advance to the round of 32, where she dropped a two-set loss to College of the Canyons' Sydney Tamondong.

The 3C2A round of 16 gets underway Saturday at 2 p.m., with the quarterfinals following at 5 p.m. The semifinals and championship are slated for Sunday.
