Riverside Advances to SoCal Semifinals With Win Over Canyons

Riverside City College downed the College of the Canyons 5-1 in the first round of the 3C2A SoCal Regional to advance to the next round.

The Tigers improve to 16-2 on the year, while the Cougars end their season with a 9-5 record.

RCC started the match strong with two doubles teams winning: Denise Campbell and Kaden Richards (8-4) and Monica Carrillo and Madison Reynoso (8-1).

It put the Tigers up 2-1 in the match heading into singles action, just needing three wins to clinch the match victory.

Campbell picked up the win in the number two spot (6-4, 6-0) before Reynoso claimed the fourth spot (6-2, 6-1). Richards came in clutch in the number five spot, coming from behind to win her game (3-6, 6-1, 6-1) and hand RCC the team victory.

The Tigers head to Glendale College for the second round on Tuesday, with first serve set for 2 p.m.
