Riverside City College put together a ferocious comeback attempt but fell just short in a 51-47 loss at No. 25-ranked Antelope Valley College Friday afternoon.
The Tigers slip to 8-7 on the year, while the Marauders improve to 7-4 overall.
Nave'ah Pina led two Tigers in double figures, posting 22 points (8-for-22), while Michelle Soto followed with 12 points (6-for-11). Ariel Perkins dished out seven assists and Alexa Moreno led the Tigers with nine rebounds.
After trailing 44-25 heading into the fourth quarter, Riverside dug deep and opened the frame on a 7-0 run. The visitors kept chipping away at the lead and pulled within two, 49-47, with just 90 seconds left in the game as Talia Washington – who was limited to just eight points – drove to the basket.
The Tigers got a defensive stop and fouled with eight seconds left, but the Marauders made both of their chances at the charity stripe before getting a stop of their own to seal the 51-47 result.
RCC resumes action in the new year, hosting Imperial Valley College on Friday, Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. before beginning Orange Empire Conference action the following week.
