Big Second Quarter Leads Tigers past El Camino
The Riverside City College women's basketball team has been riding a hot streak in December as they have yet to lose a game. They closed out the El Camino Christmas Crossover on Saturday by playing the host El Camino College Warriors. The Tigers leaned on a strong second quarter and were able to escape a fourth-quarter comeback attempt by the Warriors leading to a 67-60 win.
Sophomore Neveah Manning has been downright dominant in the early stages of the season as she dropped 19 points to mark her third-consecutive double-digit showing. She racked up 11 boards to notch a double-double for the second time this month. She was 7-for-10 from the floor as well. So far this season, Manning is averaging 15.1 points-per-game and 8.9 rebounds-per-game.
After failing to score the previous contest, freshman Makayla Roberts got on the board with a 12-point showing to go along with six rebounds and four assists. She drilled four triples to lead her team. Freshman Janara Williams experienced a career-high scoring mark by coming off the bench for 12 points in a season-high 23 minutes of action. She was two rebounds shy of a double-double and one rebound shy of tying her career-high mark.
Sophomore Maxine Najera flirted with a double-double after flushing nine points and crashing for eight rebounds. She also added a trio of steals and assists. Sophomore Ashley Smith made waves on the defensive end with four steals. She chipped in four assists and dropped six points as well.
Points in the paint and play in the key distanced the Tigers from the Warriors early on. RCC corralled 48 rebounds to the Warrior's 39 and scored 24 more points down low. Furthermore, Riverside's bench outscored the Warrior's bench 19-2.
