Women’s Basketball Routs Golden West in Conference Opener

Women’s Basketball Routs Golden West in Conference Opener

The 14-win Riverside City College women's basketball team hit the road for its Orange Empire Conference (OEC) opener against the Golden West College Rustlers on Wednesday night. After having their nine-game winning streak snapped last Friday, the Tigers picked back up with a commanding 86-58 victory.

Five players landed in double-digit scoring highlighted by a 15-point showing from sophomore point guard Shannon Jordan. She was 5-for-9 from the floor highlighted by a set of threes. It is her third-consecutive double-digit showing and sixth in the last seven games. Furthermore, she added three steals and three rebounds in the process.

Sophomore tandem Maxine Najera and Neveah Manning each recorded double-doubles combining for 23 points and 22 rebounds. Manning finished with 13 points and 10 boards, while Najera inked 10 points and hauled in 12 rebounds.

Freshman guard Mikayla Roberts finished with 11 points which was the second-largest double-digit game in the last three games. She hauled in seven rebounds, dished out three assists and pocketed four steals as well.

The bench brigade was led by freshman guard N'Dya Parks as she flushed a team-high 16 points to go along with three rebounds. Her game mark is three points shy of her career-high total.

As a team, Riverside shot 40.7 percent from the floor and hauled in 56 rebounds; 12 better than the Rustlers. Furthermore, they forced 28 turnovers and only surrendered the ball 11 times.
