Tigers Keep Rolling, Rout SD Mesa by Double Digits

Tigers Keep Rolling, Rout SD Mesa by Double Digits

The Riverside City College women's basketball team is riding a winning wave as they entered into a non-conference showdown against the San Diego Mesa College Spartans on an eight-game winning streak. The streak was pushed to nine-in-a-row after the Tigers laid down the law on SD Mesa by the final score of 74-47.

SD Mesa struggled to score double-digit points in each frame as the Tigers held them to under 12 points in the first, second and fourth quarters. They forced 16 turnovers while holding the Spartans to a mere 25.8 shooting percentage.

The Tigers shot a subpar 32.6 percent from the floor in comparison to their previous three contests. Nevertheless, they dominated in all offensive categories highlighted by 38 points in the paint and a whopping 79 rebounds. Furthermore, they turned 16 forced turnovers into 22 points.

Leading the charge was sophomore Maxine Najera who recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. In every game she has recorded 10 or more rebounds, she has landed in double digit points. Sophomore Shannon Jordan followed with 13 points marking her fourth double-digit scoring showing in the past five games.

Sophomore Neveah Manning had a sluggish night on the court (5-for-15), but still managed to finish with 11 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Mikayla Roberts led the team with 15 rebounds with 12 coming on the defensive end.

The bench was led by freshman Janara Williams as she flirted with a double-double. She finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
