Tiger Beat Cerritos in Overtime, Place Third in Host Tournament

Tiger Beat Cerritos in Overtime, Place Third in Host Tournament

Tonight's winner was decided in overtime as the Riverside City College women's basketball team faced off against the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners in the third place game of the eighth annual "Earning Our Stripes" Tournament. The Tigers leaned on a handful of players as three landed in double digits leading to the victory.

Riverside had the final possession of regulation and drew up a strong inbound play, but sophomore Neveah Manning's last-second shot rattled off the rim and backboard forcing overtime.

Manning came back strong in the final five minutes of extra time as she put the Tigers up by two after kissing two points off the glass to begin the frame. After assisting on the previous possession, sophomore Mya Clark handed the Tigers a four-point lead with a bucket on the ensuing possession.

Rio Hondo put together a mini 6-0 run to regain the lead, but Clark continued to carry the squad with two free throws and another key basket. Freshman N'Dya Parks iced the game with under 30 seconds with jumper and two free throws leading to an 88-84 win.

Clark was welcomed back into the starting lineup after being sidelined for two games with an injury and flushed a team-high 19 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She was 8-for-17 from the floor and five of her rebounds came on the offensive end.

Sophomore Neveah Manning came off the bench for the first time in her career and performed at a high level leading to 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sophomore Neiya Hamilton adjusted her role as well by coming off the pine and bucketing 11 points and corralling four rebounds.

Freshman Mikayla Roberts flirted with a triple double as she flushed eight points, dished out seven assists and inked seven rebound, while Parks followed with eight points and five assists.
