at Riverside City College Tigers 2, Sacramento City College Panthers 1 (nonconference);

RIVERSIDE – Ricardo Rodriguez went four for four with one RBI and Michael Deceglie went two for four and scored the go-ahead run as the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's baseball team shaded the Sacramento City College (SCC) Panthers, 2-1, in a non-conference game Friday afternoon at the Evans Sports Complex.
With the win, Riverside City improved to 8-4, while Sacramento City fell to 4-6 with the loss.

Rodriguez, a sophomore third-baseman from Moreno Valley – Canyon Springs HS, stroked a 1-0 pitch to right field, scoring sophomore first-baseman Daniel Arellano (Corona – Centennial HS) to tie the game at 1-1. In the fourth, with two outs, Deceglie (Rancho Cucamonga – Los Osos HS) singled through the right side on a 1-1 pitch. Freshman CF K.C. Huth (La Verne – Bonita HS) lofted a single to right-center field as Deceglie raced to third. When SCC freshman CF Jake Sexton (Del Campo HS) knocked the ball down, only to have it get away from him, Deceglie scored and Huth motored into second base.

In the top of the first, SCC freshman 3B Jerrod Bravo (Ponderosa HS) lined a one-out single to center field. Freshman RF Jared James (C.K. McClatchy HS) followed with a single through the right side. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before freshman LF Marc Fackrell (Ponderosa HS) drove in Bravo on a groundout to second base for a short-lived 1-0 lead.

The game lasted only 2:09 and, like the night before, both starting pitchers were effective.
RCC starting RHP, freshman Cortland Cox (Alta Loma HS), went the first 7.0 innings and allowed just the one earned run on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts. He threw 79 pitches, 55 strikes, to improve to 2-2. Sophomore RHP Joseph Molina (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS) hurled the final 2.0 innings to notch his third save. SCC starting LHP Dan Sayles (Wauwatosa East [WI] HS) went the first 5.1 innings and allowed the two runs (one earned) on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. He threw 93 pitches, 63 for strikes, and saw his record level off at 2-2.

Game three of the three-game series is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 23, at 12 p.m.
